out of IO patients with absence of the sixth aortic arch, by means of selective catheterization of the major aortopulmonary collateral arteries. Three patients were infants. Total pulmonary resistance was severely raised, and exceeded 9 .5 units m2 in all patients while breathing room air, but fell significantly upon breathing IOO per cent oxygen. The younger patients had a significantly lower pulmonary resistance than the older patients. Important stenoses were shown in the aortopulmonary collateral arteries of all but one patient, either

Congenital bronchopulmonary vascular malformations: clinical application of a simple anatomical approach in 25 cases.
Congenital malformations of the bronchopulmonary airway and related arterial blood supply are a complex group of lesions in which abnormalities of venous drainage and lung parenchyma may coexist. Twenty five cases have been analysed, by a method whereby each anatomical component is separately considered. All 25 patients had abnormalities of the tracheobronchial tree, with no connection to the a...
متن کاملEndothelin-1 has haemodynamic effects at pathophysiological concentrations in patients with left ventricular dysfunction.
OBJECTIVES Plasma levels of immunoreactive endothelin-1 (ET-1) are raised in chronic heart failure. Whether plasma ET-1 contributes to the haemodynamic derangement found in chronic heart failure is not known. We investigated the effects of exogenous ET-1 on the pulmonary and systemic vasculature in patients with left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVD), with or without overt heart failure. ...
متن کاملHaemodynamic effects of disopyramide in patients after open-heart surgery.
Disopyramide phosphate was administered intravenously in a dose of 1.2 mg/kg body weight over one minute to nine patients after open-heart surgery and coronary artery bypass grafting. The haemodynamic changes were studied during and for 30 minutes after drug administration. Heart rate was unchanged throughout the study. During infusion the only significant changes were an increase in systemic b...
متن کاملThe study of arterial supply of the carpal joint in one-humped camel (Camelus dromedrus)
BACKGROUND: There is little information about blood supply of the carpal joint in one- humped camel, while there is extensive data about cow and equine species. In order to perform surgeries and diagnostic techniques in carpal region, information about the elements of the joint such as its arteries is necessary. OBJECTIVES: This study aims at describing the origins, arrangements, and branches o...
متن کاملTHE EFFECTS OF CAPTOPRIL ON PULMONARY AND SYS TEMIC ARTERIAL PRESSURES IN HIGHALTITUDE PULMONARY HYPERTENSION
The purpose of this investigation was to assess the effect of captopril on both systemic (P.a) and pulmonary arterial pressures (PPA) in patients with high-altitude pulmonary hypertension (HAPH). Seventeen patients (mean age 44±6.8 years) with HAPH and mild to moderate systemic arterial hypertension were included in the study. All patients underwent right heart catheterization with measurem...
